Ownership of smart home products increased by over 50% in the last year

According to Parks Associates smart home research, ownership of smart home products among U.S. broadband households increased by over 50% in the past 12 months. An additional 43% of broadband households in the U.S. express an intention to purchase a smart home device in the coming year.

Connectivity opens the door to new, highly differentiated products and services, but interoperability remains a challenge. Other Parks Associates research shows:

  • 30% of U.S. broadband households intend to purchase a smart lightbulb by end of year.
  • 65% of U.S. broadband households trust the retail channel, including local and national retailers, when purchasing a smart home product.
  • U.S. broadband households with a head of household ages 25-34 have the highest adoption rate for smart home devices at nearly 30%.

The 2016 CONNECTIONS Summit at CES conference will address the factors impacting adoption of connected products, the importance of interoperability, and the new ways companies are addressing ease of use to create a seamless experience for consumers.
