DTE Energy: Net Positive Value Proposition for a Broad Base of Consumers is Key to Consumer Adoption

Emmett Romine, General Manager Development for DTE Energy, responds to the industry question:“What are the major barriers impacting consumer adoption of energy related products and services?”

One of the key issues for consumer adoption is creating an experience that has a net positive value proposition for a broad base of consumers. Most solutions are niche, require too much time to set up, maintain and troubleshoot, and don't make enough of an impact on their lifestyle. In order to break down this barrier, customers need to have tools that not only help them control energy use, but provide feedback that is meaningful and timely to the actions they choose to take. In addition, these tools need to focus on comprehensive customer problems and may need to be framed to the customer along several dimensions when it comes to managing their homes. All of this has to be done in a simple, low cost, low maintenance way.

Emmett Romine will be speaking at the “Consumer Engagement Strategies: IoT and Energy Value Proposition” at 11:00 AM during Smart Energy Summit in Austin, TX, February 17, 2015. He will be joined by other company representatives from DR2, People Power, and PlanetEcosystems.
