European Households Eager to Get Online Video Content to the TV

Parks Associates today announced new European research that shows that the growth of broadband and OTT services is fundamentally changing the European video industry. The data reveals adoption of PC-to-TV connections in Europe exceeds that of adoption in the U.S: among broadband households, 54% in Spain and 38% in the U.K. and Germany have a PC connected to the TV, compared to just 32% in the U.S.

Commenting on the research, Parks Associates director Brett Sappington noted that European pay-TV providers and broadcasters will likely find a receptive audience as they introduce new and expanded online video services, since European broadband households are very active online. "Many are eager to get online content on the television, evidenced by the strong adoption of PC-to-TV connections and smart TVs," he remarked.

The firm's ninth-annual CONNECTIONS Europe conference will address pay-TV strategies for the European market in the session "Pay TV, Connected CE, and Broadband in 2020," November 18 at 10:45. Moderated by Sappington, the session will feature key industry executives:

  • Cornel Ciocirlan, CTO EMEA, ARRIS
  • Andrew Ferrone, VP of Pay TV, Roku
  • David Leporini, EVP, Marketing Products and Security, Viaccess-Orca
  • Rebekka Porath, Ecosystem Committee Chair, DLNA; Standards Policy Manager, Intel
  • Patrice Slupowski, VP Digital Innovation, Orange

Oliver Lewis, SVP of Sky Deutschland, will also address pay-TV challenges in his keynote address immediately following the above session on November 18.
