Smart home industry must be simple and convenient for consumers: Insights from Rovi

Charles Dawes, Senior Director of International Marketing at Rovi, answers the following industry questions prior to the 2015 CONNECTIONS Europeevent taking place 10-11 November in Amsterdam:

What challenges does Europe face with rolling out new smart home and connected entertainment services?

The biggest challenge the smart home industry faces is making sure that devices and services are as simple to use as possible for the consumer. It is essential they are interoperable, conform to an instant plug in and go experience and also enrich the end users life. This certainly applies in the home entertainment world where Rovi is focused. Making sure consumers can access their content where and when they want in the home, in a simple manner, is key.

What do you see as the biggest challenge facing your company in the next 12 months?

Rovi, as well as the industry at large, will need to work to make sure that content discovery is simple and seamless. As more and more content continues to be available to consumers from an ever increasing number of services or apps the challenge of content discovery has become harder and will continue to be so unless it is addressed. Holistic search that covers all content sources will make content discovery easy again.

Charles will be speaking on the panel session “Evolution of the Video Experience” on 10 November at 11:15.
