Technology is liberating boomers, seniors, families and caretakers by connecting care to the home. During the COVID-19 pandemic, 29% of U.S. seniors ages 65 and older have used video conferencing services, 27% have used telehealth/remote consultation services, 22% have used a grocery store delivery or pickup service, and 55% have an online video service subscription, according to recent research by Parks Associates.

In streaming TV, Amazon’s most direct point of comparison is Roku. Amazon has become the second-biggest streaming-TV hardware provider in the U.S., accounting for 33% of devices in households in the third quarter of 2020, behind Roku at 38%, according to research firm Parks Associates.

That result tracks with other recent research indicating Americans are moving up to higher-speed data tiers. In its recent Quantified Customer study, Parks Associates estimated that 24% of US broadband households are likely to upgrade their Internet service over the next six months.

Password sharing costs companies a lot of money. U.S. streaming platforms lost an estimated $2.5 billion in revenue in 2019 because of password sharing, and that amount is expected to increase to $3.5 billion in 2024, according to Parks Associates, a research firm.
