Industry leaders converged at CONNECTIONS™ Europe to discuss critical issues for growth in entertainment and smart home services for European consumers

Currently 10-12% of broadband households in the U.K. and France own a home control solution where they can control a device such as a thermostat or security camera via a smartphone or PC

Parks Associates hosted over 140 executives at CONNECTIONS™ Europe, a two-day technology conference, November 12-13 in Amsterdam, that included representatives from all areas of the connected home, including  video, tech support, and home management services. Executives from iControl Networks,  Securitas Direct – Verisure, and Orange delivered the keynote presentations on TV services, cloud-based services, and smart home solutions.

"Many of the discussions at CONNECTIONS™ Europe focused on identifying the value propositions for connected-home offerings that resonate with consumers," said Stuart Sikes, president, Parks Associates. “In his keynote, Paul Dawes of iControl Networks noted that convenience, energy savings, and peace-of-mind will drive growth of the EU home controls market. Dick Seger of Securitas Direct - Verisure added that home controls have greater appeal in bundles, where the value proposition can be tailored to the end user, as opposed to one-off solutions."

"There was immense interest in TV Everywhere/multiscreen solutions among the attendees at CONNECTIONS™ Europe this year," said Brett Sappington, director, research, Parks Associates. " We discussed the keys to multiscreen success in the European markets, which include breaking down the operator silos, resolving rights management issues, and forging partnerships between operators and OEMs and between operators and OTT providers. Multiscreen must be an operator priority if they are to succeed in the new connected-home marketplace. Each Western European home will have on average 1.5 intelligent screens by 2018, with consumers buying 281 million of these devices that year."

Sponsors for the eighth-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetization Strategies for the Connected Home were iControl Networks, Amdocs, AT&T, iYogi, PlanetEcosystems, SAFEVIEW, Securitas Direct - Verisure, Sigma Designs, SmartOTT, Sutherland Global Services, AlertMe, Intamac, Linear, Cisco, and INSTEON.
