Smart TVs the leading device U.K. households want to control with their smart speaker with personal assistant

CONNECTIONS™ Europe addresses smart home, security, energy management, and independent living solutions

New research from Parks Associates finds 24% of U.K. broadband households that own a smart speaker with personal assistant would like to control their smart TV via this device, nearly twice as many as any other device. The international research firm will host the 13th-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Strategies for Smart Home and Consumer IoT on 13-14 November at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel, featuring keynotes from Inwido and IBM, Bosch Smart Home, Orange, Parks Associates, and Philips.

“In the U.K., the NPS of smart speakers is negative, so Amazon, Google Home, and other vendors have some work to do to better adapt their products for the U.K. market,” said Jennifer Kent, Director, Research Quality & Product Development, Parks Associates. “While these products are immensely popular in the U.S., in the U.K., smart light bulbs have a higher purchase intention for the next year. Overall usage of personal assistant apps in the U.K. matches the U.S. overall, so there is consumer interest for voice control. The smart speaker form factor has yet to deliver the experience U.K. customers expect.”

Kent will present this and other consumer research and discuss its implications in the conference keynote “Opportunities and Future Growth in the Smart Home: The U.K. Consumer.”

CONNECTIONS™ Europe features multiple sessions with research and executive insights on the business opportunities, revenue strategies, and partnership opportunities for the smart home, security, energy management, and wellness industries.

The sessions “Voice-First Smart Experience: Innovation and Disruption” and  “Connected Product Ecosystems: Entertainment and Smart Home,” both moderated by Dina Abdelrazik, Research Analyst, Parks Associates, will examine product ecosystems in the connected home and the challenge in delivering a voice-first experience for the consumer.
