Complimentary Whitepaper Examines Landscape for Residential Voice Technologies

by Parks Associates | Jan. 25, 2021

Parks Associates recently released the Market Snapshot, Voice as a Lifeline and the Transformation of Home Telephony, which explores how home telephony is transforming in ways that provide renewed validation of legacy technologies even while new technologies accelerate adoption. The whitepaper, developed in partnership with DECT Forum, reports that North American and European telecommunications providers have seen a significant increase in home telephony beginning last year with the COVID-19 lockdowns.

With physical contact being limited during COVID-19, voice calls have moved to the forefront of communications. AT&T’s weekday traffic increased by 30%, while Verizon wireless and broadband services experienced a 22% increase in traffic and Wi-Fi calls doubled their normal volume. The COVID-19 crisis has also been a catalyst for voice services to expand to deliver more telehealth and work-at-home use cases.

The implications of these new trends and use cases will extend beyond the pandemic. Together with the presence of legacy and new technologies, they have transformed home telephony in ways that will continue to increase adoption of residential voice technologies.
