ARRIS CTO to Deliver Keynote “Gateways and Set-Top Box Evolution: Powering the Future of Home Infotainment” at CONNECTIONS™: The Premier Connected Home Conference

Parks Associates and industry leaders to discuss role of set-tops in delivering enhanced video experiences, San Francisco, California, May 13-15

Parks Associates announced today that Charles Cheevers, CTO, Customer Premises Equipment for ARRIS, will present the CONNECTIONS™ morning keynote “Gateways and Set-Top Box Evolution: Powering the Future of Home Infotainment” on Wednesday, May 14. Cheevers will examine innovations in 4K, cloud services, and set-tops and their role in delivering a multiscreen, multiuser experience in the connected home.

The international research firm will host CONNECTIONS™: The Premier Connected Home Conference on May 13-15 at the San Francisco Airport Marriott Waterfront. Parks Associates research finds video consumption among U.S. broadband households has increased from 23 hours per week in 2010 to almost 30 hours per week in 2014, with nearly 20 hours spent on the TV. Globally, over 60% of pay-TV households receive their service from a cable provider.

"Set-top boxes have to evolve to accommodate many new features, including interoperability among connected CE, while delivering the same high-quality user experience to multiple screens in the home," said Stuart Sikes, president, Parks Associates. "ARRIS has been a leader in IP, video, and broadband technology and has solidified its role with recent acquisitions of Motorola Mobility's Home division and SeaWell Networks. We are excited to host Mr. Cheevers at CONNECTIONS™."

“Today’s consumers have high expectations of their broadband service and supplier and an increasing thirst for more bandwidth and lower latency services,” Cheevers said. “Service providers need to deliver a new level of Quality of Service, multiscreen support and full-featured, simple navigation of services to their subscribers. The stakes are now higher too as they compete with CE services and their user experiences, but service providers still retain the key elements of the network delivery, including Wi-Fi, to ensure that they can provide the best connected experience.”
