Electrical Efficiency Programs Saved Almost 90 Million Metric Tons of Carbon Dioxide

Saving energy, cutting costs, and preserving the world's resources are common concerns among both consumers and utility providers. In a new report from the Edison Foundation Institute for Electric Innovation, data shows that customer-funded energy efficiency programs were able to prevent the generation of almost 90 metric tons of carbon dioxide in 2012, a significant savings.

The report, recently published by FierceEnergy, also notes that these same programs generated enough electrical savings in 2012 to power over 12 million U.S. homes for a year. When compared to 2011 figures, budgets for these programs remained at similar levels, indicating a greater adoption across the country. As these programs continue to grow, the foundation expects several states to become leaders in energy efficiency for the rest of the country.
