What are the biggest opportunities for the smart home industry to work with the electricity industry?

There are major opportunities–especially now that some of the more energy-hungry industries are adopting smart technologies. For years upgraded lighting and upgraded HVAC systems have been the answer. Now the great opportunity is to have smart monitoring and controls that know the precise homeowner needs at all times to optimize legacy products and equipment. Things like retrofit kits to HVAC systems can provide homeowners with new insights to take actions, specifically catered for their situation, and further reduce their energy consumption without harming their preferences.

What impact will smart products and smart home services have on consumer adoption of energy solutions?

It could have a substantial impact that we don’t fully know how transformational the opportunities will be. We’re still in the very early stages of smart homes and as more and more homeowners demand better control over their home environment, this will naturally lead to opportunities for savings. Often people think that we have to trade comfort and preferences for efficiency—the truth is they tend to go hand in hand.
