High-speed broadband driving expansion of IoT in Europe

According to Parks Associates research, there were 721 million broadband households worldwide in 2014, and that number will reach 972 million by 2019. The prevalence of high-speed connections will drive the expansion of the Internet of Things in the European connected home.

Additional Parks Associates research shows:

  • 11% of U.K. broadband households own a home control system, compared to 10% in France and Spain and 8% in Germany.
  • Deployments smart devices will increase consumer awareness of new smart home services and hel drive the five-year CAGR for adoption of smart home controllers in Western Europe to over 11%.
  • Among European broadband households, 17% in Germany, 22% in Spain, and 24% in the U.K. find a smart thermostat very appealing.
