Industry Must Unify Connected Entertainment Experience for Consumers: DivX Insights

Eric Grab, Chief Technology Officer at DivX, LLC, answers several industry questions concerning consumer engagement and connected entertainment:

What is the most important next step to engage consumers in smart home solutions, connected entertainment services, and/or value–added services like tech support and connected health?

Our industry’s next big push must be around unifying the video entertainment experience for consumers to include all the content they care about—including both premium content and the personal content they create themselves—across all devices.

What is the biggest challenge your company faces in 2015?

With the DivX® legacy rooted firmly in consumer software and electronics, our challenge in 2015 will be to make the industry aware of the DivX® OmniView™ solution, our newest offering for broadcasters, OTT providers and pay TV operators to securely distribute high-quality, multi-screen OTT video up to 4K.

What is the biggest driver for the connected consumer market?

More and more consumers are making the switch to OTT services, but to drive mass adoption, we believe content services need to deliver more seamless interoperability and higher quality video experiences using HEVC up to 4K across multiple screens.

Eric Grab will be speaking on the panel “Consumer Demand for Next-Gen TV Services” at CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES in Las Vegas, NV, January 6, 2015. Other panel speakers include representatives from BrightLine, Cisco, Gracenote, ThinkAnalytics, and Verizon.
