Insights into Easing Consumers Concerns with Privacy and Data Security with IMONT CEO, Nigel Pugh

by Parks Associates | May. 8, 2018

Nigel Pugh, CEO, IMONT Technologies Limited spoke with the Parks Associates’ analyst team prior to the 22nd-annual CONNECTIONS: The Premier Connected Home Conference to discuss how companies can capitalize on consumer interest in a home insurance-smart home connection.

Nigel will be speaking on the Future of the Connected Home: Delivering on Promises panel at 8:30 AM, Thursday, May 24, in San Francisco. He will be joined by the following speakers:

Laura Crisp, Manager of Emerging Business, Chamberlain, Chamberlain
Kurt Hoppe, Global Head of Innovation – Mobility & Connected Services, GM
Anthony Versarge, Head of Product, Health and Wellness, Comcast

Given the continual increase in the number of connected products, how can providers ease consumer concerns associated with data security and privacy?
There will be a growing realization that cloud breaches will continue to happen. The very personal nature of smart home data will drive a trend towards sending less information to the cloud, or making sure that it’s anonymized. This will be reinforced by the growing understanding that a cloud breach may not just expose data; in the case of the smart home it may also cede control of your home. This will result in creating limits to what commands can be remotely issued to the home, and by whom.

How will artificial intelligence (AI) impact the smart home, IoT, and connected entertainment landscapes in 2018 and beyond?
It will become increasingly important, as the quality and richness of data emerging from the home grows. Today’s “rules” and “scenes” will be replaced by a system that derives its own operating modes from the occupants.
