New CONNECTIONS™ White Paper analyzes Google TV Strategy

International research firm Parks Associates today released the new white paper “Google TV – Searching for Success” ahead of the upcoming CONNECTIONS™ conference on June 8-10, 2010. The white paper analyzes the strategy behind Google TV and the market conditions surrounding Google’s foray into the connected CE market.

Parks Associates will host CONNECTIONS™: The Digital Living Conference and Showcase on June 8-10 at the Santa Clara Convention Center. CONNECTIONS™ is the premier event for research and analysis on connected home technologies and digital living solutions, with over 600 executives attending each year.

“U.S. revenues from online video on connected CE, excluding game consoles, will reach $800 million by 2014, but since this amount is divided among all the players, it won't be a huge revenue stream for the individual companies,” said Kurt Scherf, VP, principal analyst, Parks Associates. “Google brings the potential for huge advertising revenues; however, content is key to a successful solution.”

Parks Associates’ recent study Digital Media Evolution II found demand for premium content is driving consumer interest in connected CE. Given these findings, content partnerships and the ability to deliver high-quality video will be significant factors for success in this market.

CONNECTIONS™ will feature the following keynotes:

  • “Entertainment in a Connected World,” June 8; Mitch Singer, CTO, Sony Pictures Entertainment; President, DECE
  • “TV Technology in the New Age of Consumer Buying,” June 9; Scott Birnbaum, Vice President, Samsung LCD Business
  • “The Connected Home: Turning SciFi into Non-Fiction,” June 9; Joseph Ambeault, Director, Product Development and Management, Video Services, Verizon
  • “Smart TVs: Ready for Primetime,” June 10; Wilfred Martis, General Manager, Retail CE, Digital Home Group, Intel Corporation
