SES 2014: Building an Interoperable Ecosystem is Important for Energy Management Markets

More and more households are adopting smart, connected technology for home automation, energy management, and general household tasks. As the move toward the Internet of Things has grown in size in the last few years, service providers and OEMs have quickly adapted, developing new technologies and apps that extend functionality and provide seamless convenience to consumers.

During the Smart Energy Summit on February 18, representatives from HGI, Qualcomm, Wi-Fi Alliance, Zig-Bee Alliance, and Z-Wave Sigma Designs will convene to discuss how utilities can expand into this market. As competition within the connected home market increases, utilities will need to know more than ever exactly what it takes to build and expand an ecosystem of interoperable products.

Duncan Bees has overseen HGI’s launch of a successful test and logo program along with initiatives on energy efficiency, quality of service, software modularity, and home networks. Currently he is working with HGI’s members on an in-home architecture to support smart home services.
