The firm’s Video Services Dashboard reveals that the long-lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have directly impacted the video services space.

Video consumption across a variety of business models and types reached unprecedented levels as consumers were primarily homebound. The high-profile launches and further market integrations of several subscription OTT services such as Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Discovery+ significantly altered the competitive landscape. This led to Traditional pay-TV providers offering their video subscribers OTT service access via bundling in an attempt to keep customers and their associated revenue within providers’ walled gardens.

The trends that were already beginning to take shape in the video services market for years were accelerated with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Moving forward, consumer preferences will continue to shift online as video viewers perceive these services to be less costly, more convenient, and more aligned with how they want to consume video programming. Service providers, both traditional and online, will have to adjust their respective strategies and offerings to keep up with this ever-shifting base to deliver compelling video content when, where, and how consumer want to watch it.
