Jon will be participating on the Tech Support & Privacy: Creating Consumer Confidence panel on Wednesday, May 23, at 1:15 PM. Panelists joining him on this session include:

Colin Barceloux, CEO, Axius
J.B. Fowler, Chief Product Officer, DOMOTZ
Ted Haeger, VP of Training & Support, Control4

Will the rise of DIY solutions significantly impact the traditional security landscape?
The main challenge will be as more and more devices that are designed for mass consumption like we see with DIY solutions are made available, unless they have been designed and developed with a core security focus then these devices will create a massive attack surface for threat actors to take advantage of. Traditionally there were bolt on security capabilities but with IoT devices having a small footprint and minimal computing resources makes installing a security agent near impossible. As such the security landscape will need to change and adopted by manufacturers of IoT devices now and in the future if we want to ensure everyone is safe.
