Sports OTT subscription revenues in the U.S. will rise by 73 percent over the next five years to reach about $22.6 billion in 2027, according to Parks Associates.

Google Adds New Tools for Retailers to Cloud Platform

In other news, new research from Parks Associates that came out during CES 2023 has shown that 63 percent of U.S. households with internet access own a smart TV – a 38 percent increase from 2015. Additionally, the research also shows that 87 percent subscribe to at least one streaming service. This is most likely due to many large companies, such as Amazon, Apple and Google, building smart home controls into TV control platforms.

Annual US sports OTT subs revs rocket as 87% of homes stream

Sports will be a key arena for US OTT providers to gain subscriptions and according to research from Parks Associates, annual OTT sports subscription revenue will almost double to approximately $22.6 billion in 2027, a 73% increase over the next five years.

DAZN reached 15M paid subscribers in 2022

DAZN reported $2.3 billion in revenue in 2022, which the company said represented over 70% year-over-year growth. But Bloomberg reported DAZN suffered $2.3 billion in losses in 2021, due to the company’s investment in acquiring Italian and German soccer rights. Soccer is particularly a popular sports streaming option, as its fan base has the highest likelihood of paying $20 per month to access all games, per Parks Associates’ latest study.

Soccer fans more willing to pay to stream than other sports

Parks Associates, a market research and consulting firm, released information that demonstrates sports fans’ willingness to pay more than $20 per month for all games.
 
Over 60% of soccer fans put themselves in the ‘high likelihood’ to pay more than $20 per month for all games. This is the highest of the 10 sports included.
