CenturyLink acquires AppFog

by Parks Associates | Jun. 14, 2013

CenturyLink has announced its acquisition of the company AppFog, a cloud platform for web applications.  The acquisition shortly follows CenturyLink's decision to extend its network to connect two independent, third party data centers.  However, this marks CenturyLink's first stake in the profitable platform-as-a-service (PaaS) market.   CenturyLink will absorb AppFog into the telecom's subsidiary, Savvis, which provides hosted IT and cloud infrastructure services.  AppFog's service will be integrated into CenturyLink's data centers.
