Parks Associates: PC-to-TV connections in Europe outpace U.S.

ARRIS, Roku, Viaccess-Orca, DLNA/Intel, and Orange explore ways to leverage pay-TV offerings at CONNECTIONS™ Europe

New European entertainment and Internet of Things research from Parks Associates shows adoption of PC-to-TV connections in Europe exceeds adoption in the U.S. Among broadband households, 54% in Spain and 38% in the U.K. and Germany have a PC connected to the TV, compared to 32% in the U.S.

The research firm will explore the long-term impacts of connected CE adoption on European pay-TV industries at the ninth-annual CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Strategies for the Connected Home,18-19 November in Amsterdam. The conference features the keynote "Pay-TV Strategies to Reach Connected Consumers," delivered by Oliver Lewis, SVP, Sky Deutschland, and the session "Pay TV, Connected CE, and Broadband in 2020," with executives from ARRIS, Roku, Viaccess-Orca, DLNA/Intel, and Orange.

"Growth of broadband services and expansion of OTT services are driving systematic changes throughout Europe's video industry," said Brett Sappington, Director, Research, Parks Associates. "Netflix is expanding, and new entrants are launching video services. Pay-TV providers are introducing their own services to compete with these new players, and broadcasters are expanding access to online video. They will find a receptive audience as European broadband households are very active online. Many are eager to get online content on the television, evidenced by the strong adoption of PC-to-TV connections and smart TVs."

Many companies will add new features to differentiate their offerings, including personalized recommendations and second-screen features. Among smartphone and tablet owners, 46% in Germany, 59% in Spain, and 47% in the U.K. use their mobile device(s) to search for video content.

"Pay TV, Connected CE, and Broadband in 2020" features the following executives:

Cornel Ciocirlan, CTO EMEA, ARRIS
