Featured App Uses: Research Shows How Consumers are Engaging with Health Devices

by Parks Associates | Aug. 27, 2018

Parks Associates research finds that 75% of smart watch owners and 68% of fitness tracker owners are using their devices every day. How are consumers utilizing digital health applications? This new infographic below highlights the top 10 ways consumers use health apps the most, including tracking resting heart rates and consumed calories, setting exercise goals, and logging food and drink.

Notably, almost half (48%) of daily app users utilize their health devices to track the number of steps they’re taking, putting it at the top as the most used feature. It’s closely followed by tracking distances run or walked, which is used by 40% of consumers. Contrarily, GPS-enabled route tracking is used by only 13% of consumers who use their device regularly, which places it at the bottom of the list.

All of this is good news for connected health providers that are aiming to increase consumer engagement with their products. Parks Associates’ research shows that consumers are using their devices consistently and also highlights where companies need to focus to increase usage.

Parks Associates will host their 5th-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers from August 28 to August 30, 2018 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego. Each year, this executive event examines strategies to ensure consumers sustain engagement with their connected health devices and assesses how use of health tech affects outcomes.
