Greenwave Systems: Personalization is Key to Driving Smart Home Adoption

Nate Williams, CMO and EVP of Business Development at Greenwave Systems, responds to the industry question, “What is the most important next step to engage consumers in smart home solutions, connected entertainment services, and/or value-added services like tech support and connected health?”

If we want consumers to have confidence in our industry, we need to drive a hard line on ensuring usability in our connected products and develop within an open ecosystem that guarantees interoperability between multi-vendor devices. We can’t continue to build within silos, and setting industry standards will be key to resolving that. For example, what if your connected lights were exposed to other smart home applications such as motion sensors, video streaming cameras and thermostats? In addition to just controlling your lights, you could create a personalized ‘coming home’ experience that turns on your porch lights and adjusts your thermostats, or you could be alerted remotely if there were intruders in your home. This type of personalization will be key to driving mass adoption. It will also ensure that we can continue to address the value proposition to make Smart Home compelling for the mass market.

Nate Williams will be speaking during the “Internet of Things: Expanding Smart Devices” session at CONNECTIONS™ Summit at CES in Las Vegas, NV, January 6, 2015. Other speakers include representatives from Amdocs, Arrayent, EcoFactor, Ericsson, and WeatherBug Home by Earth Networks.
