More than one-third of U.S. broadband households subscribe to multiple OTT video services

Research firm hosts pre-show workshop in cooperation with The Pay TV Show to explore trends defining success in new landscape for video services

Leading IoT research firm Parks Associates will host a half-day research workshop “Survivor’s Guide to the New Video World” on May 14 at The Pay TV Show in Denver, Colorado, to examine pay-TV strategies to monetize OTT video, streaming apps, and the viewing habits of millennials and younger viewers.

Parks Associates research finds more than one-third of U.S. broadband households subscribe to multiple OTT video services, including 15% subscribing to three or more. At the same time, penetration of pay-TV service subscriptions among households with broadband has fallen below 80%, its lowest point in the past seven years.

“The pay-TV industry is facing a massive shift in consumer viewing, service selection, and purchasing, forcing companies throughout the ecosystem to re-examine how they do business,” said Brett Sappington, Senior Director of Research, Parks Associates. “Some of the fastest growing OTT video services are online pay-TV services and offerings from premium cable networks and broadcasters. New partnerships and distribution channels, such as Amazon Channels, are changing the dynamic for marketing and monetization of services. The result is a combination of new players and aggressive traditional powers that are redefining the video services world.”

The half-day workshop “Survivor’s Guide to the New Video World” takes place at The Pay TV Show, hosted by FierceCable. Parks Associates analysts will provide consumer data and research on adoption and usage of video innovations, expert insights on the key trends shaping the landscape for video services, and strategies for provider success.

FierceCable is excited to announce The Pay TV Show and partner with Parks Associates for the Survivor’s Guide to the New Video World Workshop,” said Kevin Gray, Publisher, FierceMarkets. “The inaugural event was designed as the new meeting ground for video programming distributors and will bring together the entire pay TV ecosystem. We'll look at the innovative technologies, strategies, and business models that cable, telecom, tech, and media companies are using to compete in what has become a very disrupted marketplace.”

The Pay TV Show will offer a world-class conference program with exhibits created by the renowned thought leaders of FierceCable and FierceVideo in a mix of keynotes, fireside chats, general sessions focusing on Business Models & Content and UX & Technology, and panel discussions.
