aioTV, Comcast Cable, Rovi, and Samsung to address monetization of user interfaces on multiple entertainment platforms at CONNECTIONS™

Parks Associates announced today executives from aioTV, Comcast Cable, Rovi, and Samsung will address the monetization opportunities  and development challenges for cross-platform user interfaces (UIs) during the CONNECTIONS™ session “Search, Discovery, Recommendation: New Revenues and Experiences."

The international research firm will host CONNECTIONS™: The Premier Connected Home Conference, co-located with CTIA, on May 20-23 in Las Vegas. Parks Associates research finds over one-third of smartphone and tablet owners use these devices to search for or request information while watching TV.

“As the volume of content available to consumers continues to increase, viewers struggle to find content that is interesting to them. Inevitably, they end up with the '1,000-channels-and-nothing-to-watch' mentality about their TV service,” said Brett Sappington, director, research, Parks Associates. “Today’s discovery functions are designed for consumers who know what they want to watch, allowing them to search for content by title, genre, and actor. Tomorrow’s discovery functions will use a variety of inputs to match consumers to the content that suits their preferences. In addition to improving the viewing experience, service providers will have the opportunity to derive incremental revenues.”

This executive session at CONNECTIONS™, moderated by Sappington, will analyze the new crop of solutions improving cross-platform UIs and managing multiple streams of content. It takes place Wednesday, May 22, 3:15 P.M., following keynote speaker John Penney, EVP, Strategy, Business Development, & Worldwide Distribution, Starz.

Panelists:

Amit Bagga, Chief Scientist, Comcast Metadata Products and Search Services, Comcast Cable

Michael Earle, CEO, aioTV Inc.

Priya Rajagopalan, VP, Product Management, Rovi

Kevin Morrow, VP, Strategic Partnerships, Samsung Media Solutions Center America (MSCA), Samsung

“The demand for multiscreen experiences is here," said Michael Earle, CEO, aioTV Inc. "Operators have a tremendous opportunity to monetize additional services that IP delivery provides and create a unified customer viewing experience for all content across connected devices."

“The future of media isn’t about delivering more content; it’s making  that content easier to find, optimizing it for preferred devices, and offering complementary content across multiple screens to enrich the viewing experience," said Kevin Morrow, VP, Strategic Partnerships, Samsung Media Solutions Center America. "Through these experiences we drive innovation in business models and greater revenue opportunities across the industry.”
