Parks Associates Research Director to Lead Panel Discussing Technology’s Impact on Healthcare at HIMSS15

Harry Wang to discuss wearables and connected health on Wednesday, April 15, at HIMSS15 in Chicago

Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates, will share his expertise on consumer applications for health IT at the 2015 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, April 12-16, 2015.Wang will present “Healthy Living, Connected Devices and Wearables” on April 15 from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m. More than 38,000 healthcare industry professionals will attend the conference, where they will learn about and discuss health IT issues and view industry solutions.

As an HIMSS15 presenter, Wang will lead a roundtable discussion based on the latest research drawn from consumer research and industry analysis. Speakers will examine technology's impact on consumer/care provider engagement efforts and strategies care providers and entrepreneurs can implement to accomplish a "triple aim"—lower healthcare costs, improve quality, and offer convenient access. New research from Parks Associates indicates:

  • Roughly one-fifth of smartphone and tablet owners use a health app on a monthly basis.
  • Among those using health apps, the average length of a usage session is just under 17 minutes.
  • 19% of smartphone owners find a master health app that aggregates data from all health apps very appealing.

“The annual HIMSS conference is a significant digital health event that showcases not only health IT innovations but also key technologies that deliver consumer health and wellness applications,” Wang said. “I am thrilled to facilitate a roundtable discussion about how technologies will support patient self-care and bring care providers opportunities to engage patients outside their clinics.”

The HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition ranks as one of the largest health IT gatherings in the world, with more than 300 peer-reviewed education sessions, a 467,000 square-foot exhibit floor, and numerous networking events.

“HIMSS is recognized for its quality and relevant programming. At HIMSS15, we will have more than 400 speakers share their expertise during our pre-conference and conference educational sessions,” said JoAnn W. Klinedinst, CPHIMS, PMP, FHIMSS, vice president, professional development, for HIMSS. “I congratulate our HIMSS15 Annual Conference Education Committee that selected our final speakers as well as all presenters who will be part of our extensive and diverse programming schedule.”
