App Revenues to exceed $20 billion in North America in 2017

CONNECTIONS™ features session on App Ecosystem with Industry Executives from Accedo, Apsalar, Adobe, Pandora & 3scale

Parks Associates announced today that Accedo, Apsalar, Adobe, Pandora, and 3scale will participate in the CONNECTIONS™ session “The Evolution of the App Ecosystem,” to examine the impact of mobile and connected device adoption and consumer demand for content on the mobile app market.

CONNECTIONS™, hosted by Parks Associates, is co-located with CTIA on May 20-23 in Las Vegas. Parks Associates estimates mobile app revenues in the U.S. and Canada will reach nearly $22 billion in 2017, fueled mainly by in-app purchases and in-app advertising revenues. The executive session, moderated by Harry Wang, Director, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates, on May 20 at 10:45 a.m., addresses the impact of apps on the connected home industries and how apps on connected devices are changing all the processes for content discovery, promotion, and awareness.

Panelists:

David Adams, VP Corporate Development, Accedo

Michael Oiknine, CEO, Apsalar

Ray Pun, Director, Mobile Strategy, Adobe

Alison White, Senior Business Development Manager, Pandora

Steve Willmott, CEO, 3scale

"Tablet owners show a greater tendency than smartphone users to make in-app purchases, with more than 20% having upgraded from a free to a paid version of an app," said Harry Wang, Health & Mobile Product Research, Parks Associates. "The mobile app market has entered a new, more mature stage where companies need to employ precise segmentation and deployment strategies in order to generate consumer interest and realize successful monetization. At CONNECTIONS™, we will examine the trends affecting this market and the new revenue strategies emerging."

"What most companies will agree on is the importance of mobile, yet the best practices for succeeding in the space are not always clear to companies just starting out on mobile," said Michael Oiknine, CEO, Apsalar. "It's becoming evident that mobile user data will play a key role in the mobile strategies of these businesses.  I look forward to discussing some of these data findings and best practices at CONNECTIONS™."

"Apps are also increasingly becoming embedded in real world objects - with companies such as Johnson Controls wiring commercial buildings, or Samsung launching Android-controlled fridges," said Steve Willmott, CEO, 3scale. "This shift begins to blur the distinction between online and offline."

“At Accedo, we believe that the pairing of mobile and tablet devices, the second screen, to the TV will become an important part of the user experience,” said David Adams, VP Corporate Development, Accedo. “There are a number of very attractive use cases, which we believe will be readily adopted by consumers, such as using the second screen as a better way to browse and search, to control the first screen, and to view enhanced information, such as details about a specific program.”

"While the desire to enhance any mood, moment or situation with music has remained steadfast, connected devices have significantly changed the way music is consumed," said Alison White, Senior Business Development Manager, Pandora. "Pandora has now surpassed 200 million registered users and more than 140 million have accessed Pandora on a smartphone. Our listeners’ extraordinary embrace of personalized radio on their smartphones has enabled Pandora to reach massive scale in mobile and over 1 in 3 smartphone users in the U.S. have listened to Pandora in the past month."

Following the session, Kevin Petersen, President, AT&T Digital Life, Inc., will deliver the keynote "Realizing the Connected Life …into a new world of potential."
