Mobile data services to boost ARPU in Europe through 2014

CONNECTIONS™ Europe explores new roles for mobile devices and communications services

Mobile operators in Europe face ongoing declines in voice ARPU through 2014, according to international research firm Parks Associates, which will host CONNECTIONS™ Europe to explore new strategies, including advanced mobile data and video services, needed to offset these losses.

CONNECTIONS™ Europe: Monetizing Connectivity and User Interfaces, November 15-16 in Amsterdam, features the session “Mobile Video: The Cloud, the App Store, & the Connected Home” to examine these new mobile business strategies. Parks Associates forecasts data ARPU will continue to grow to almost 50% of per-user revenues for mobile services by 2014.

“Tariffs and oversaturated markets have worn down voice revenues for mobile carriers in Europe,” said Kurt Scherf, vice president, principal analyst, Parks Associates. “We see modest increases in mobile revenues in Western Europe, growing to almost $14.7 million total by 2014, buoyed in large part by steadily increasing data revenues. Popular solutions, including mobile apps, storage, video, home networking, and the expanded role of the handset within a connected CE environment, serve as differentiators. CONNECTIONS™ Europe will feature in-depth discussions on the next steps to stay competitive in this market.”

Mr. Scherf will moderate “Mobile Video: The Cloud, the App Store, & the Connected Home” on November 16, the final day of CONNECTIONS™ Europe. Session Speakers:

  • David Noguer Bau, Head of Carrier Ethernet & Multiplay Marketing, Juniper Networks
  • Martial Bellec, Innovation Programme Manager, France Telecom-Orange Labs
  • Klaus Milczewsky, Senior Manager, Deutsche Telekom AG
  • Peter Percosan, Chief Technology Officer, Cable Europe Labs
