U.S. smart home sales will reach 36 million units by 2017

International Research Firm Announces New Research and Speakers for 2015 Smart Energy Summit, February 16-18

Sales of smart home devices will exceed 20 million units by the end of 2014 and increase to 36 million units by 2017, according to Parks Associates. The research firm will address the growing energy and home controls market and examine new business opportunities at the sixth-annual Smart Energy Summit: Engaging the Consumer, February 16-18, in Austin, Texas.

“Product features can really impact adoption rates and sales,” said John Barrett, Director of Consumer Analytics, Parks Associates. “Over 40% of U.S. broadband households planning to buy a smart thermostat prefer a more expensive advanced model with more features, and nearly two-thirds of these shoppers are likely to replace their existing unit before it is necessary. This finding highlights the potential of feature-rich models to speed up the upgrade cycle.”

Parks Associates will host the Smart Energy Summit on February 16-18, 2015, at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas. The executive conference will bring together leading executives representing utilities, telecom and security companies, retailers, and OEMs.

Sicily Dickenson, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, NRG Energy, will present the opening keynote on February 17, and early event sponsors are Alarm.com, EcoFactor, Emerson, Lowe’s, People Power, PlanetEcosystems, and WeatherBug Home.
