Martin began his career in alternative energy in a somewhat unorthodox place: as a decorated officer on a nuclear submarine in the U.S. Navy. He has held sales and marketing positions at various tech companies, including Cisco, Siebel, Insightful and Pure Networks. Prior to running GAF Energy, he headed SunPower's residential North American business and global commercial business and served as President of SunPower Capital. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and has a BS from the University of North Carolina and an MBA from Harvard University. His favorite roof is the top of his bike helmet when he's out on the mountain bike trails in British Columbia.

Erika serves as the executive champion for EnergyHub's clients and end-user customers. KJ Feder KJ Feder, VP of Community Engagement & Corporate Responsibility, CPS Energy

KJ Feder, Vice President of Community Impact at CPS Energy, is responsible for the Equity and Casa Verde SA weatherization programs, Customer Response Unit (CRU), Community Outreach, Energy 2 Business and Public Safety & Education teams. She also has oversight of the Corporate Responsibility team which coordinates the fundraising, volunteerism, sponsorship & Smart Energy Education programs.

Previously, KJ served as the Chief of Staff to the President & CEO of CPS Energy, the nation’s largest municipally owned energy utility providing both natural gas and electric service. KJ carried out this role while concurrently serving as the Director of Board Relations. She served as a strategic partner and trusted advisor for the President & CEO, strategically led the Board of Trustees’ alignment activities and facilitated communication between the Board of Trustees and the CPS Energy Leadership Team.

Prior to joining CPS Energy, KJ was the Executive Director of the San Antonio March of Dimes where she was responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. She also spearheaded the foundation’s fundraising efforts to achieve the best annual financial outcome on record for the division.

KJ holds a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications from Bellevue University. She is a graduate of Leadership San Antonio (LSA), Alexander Briseño Leadership Development Program (ABLDP), and the Latina Leadership Institute (LLI). KJ serves on the Board of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SAHCC) and San Antonio for Growth on the Eastside (SAGE). She has served as a volunteer for community and non-profit organizations including, Autism Speaks, City Year, MS Society, The SAHCC’s Leadership Committee, ABLDP Chair, and LSA Steering Committee and the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce’s Operating Council, Woman to Woman, Leader to Leader Committee & Ambassador Committee Chair. She is passionate about developing others and has served as a mentor to many young professionals.


Karl Popham Karl Popham, Manager, Electric Vehicles & Emerging Technologies, Austin Energy

Karl leads the Electric Vehicles & Emerging Technologies Team at Austin Energy since its founding in 2011 whose program is recognized as “Drive Electric Utility of the Year” by Plugin America and “EVisionary City of North America” by the Electric Drive Transportation Association (EDTA).

Karl has been a Principal Investigator on over ten innovation grants and leads the utility’s “5 EV Pillar Strategy” advancing transportation electrification through infrastructure, fleets, grid integration, outreach, and equity. Karl serves on several boards to include The Energy Thought Summit, Austin Forum on Technology & Society, CS Week EVCx Forum, and co-chair of the Austin Climate Equity Plan workgroup.

An active speaker and research contributor, Karl is co-author of "Smart Cities; Applications & Standards” an industry/college textbook published by Springer. Previous roles include the utility’s interim Chief Information Officer, a Managing Director at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and a Captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers.


Jigar Shah Jigar Shah, Head of Energy Services, Electrify America

As Head of Energy Services at Electrify America, Jigar is responsible for the company’s energy portfolio, including leveraging energy storage to manage electricity costs, engaging with utilities and wholesale energy markets on policy matters and rate structures, minimizing Electrify America’s energy carbon footprint, as well as addressing vehicle-grid integration matters. He plays a key role within the company managing the energy used from over 200 utilities by more than 3,500 individual ultra-fast DC chargers across over 800 Electrify America public charging stations – the largest open charging network in the United States supporting electric vehicle adoption. In 2021, these ~700 Megawatts (MW) of 150 kilowatt (KW) to 350 kW ultra-fast chargers dispensed 41.4 gigawatt-hours of energy to fuel more than 145 million electric vehicle miles, avoiding the use of 5.7 million gallons of gasoline.

Jigar was recently named as a Rising Star in the EV Industry by Business Insider for 2022. Jigar has a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a minor in Business, from Cornell University, and a Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University.

Shankar Achanta Shankar Achanta, Vice President of Products, Sunnova

Shankar Achanta serves as Vice of Products at Sunnova where he is responsible for leading and managing portfolio of products and solutions for powering homes and businesses with new electrification technologies. Mr. Achanta brings over 20 years of experience in developing and managing technology product portfolios for power utilities and industrial customers. He received his M.S. in electrical engineering from Arizona State University in 2002. Prior to joining Sunnova, Mr. Achanta held several leadership roles at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. (SEL) since 2002 in research and development division and is named on 25+ awarded patents in the field of power systems, communications, and sensor technologies and has also authored several technical papers. As an R&D and product leader throughout his career, Mr. Achanta started several new product lines and grew them into successful business units. He developed multiple successful partnerships with large organizations, to build joint solutions and go-to-market strategies.


Erik J. Bernal Erik J. Bernal, CEO, Elite Water Systems

Originally from Winters, Texas, now residing in San Antonio, Erik Bernal is married to Heidi Bernal and the father of five beautiful girls. He is an honors graduate of the University of Tennessee receiving a B.S. in Logistics with a minor in Marketing in 2003. Erik started his career with Accenture in Atlanta as an information technology consultant working with SunTrust Bank and the State of North Carolina. He moved on from Accenture in the fall of 2004 working as a sales representative for Schindler Elevator in New Orleans.
 
When Hurricane Katrina struck southern Louisiana in August of 2005, Bernal became extremely concerned with the environmental impact. Thus began his journey with water quality. He began working in various roles in the Central U.S., understanding the challenges of inadequate water quality. In August of 2007, he was provided an exclusive contract with GE Water and Pentair Water Filtration for San Antonio, Texas. He has since expanded his territory to include Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Florida, Nevada, and soon to be moving his products into the Southeast. Currently, Elite Water Systems is manufacturing and distributing water and air quality solutions in multiple market segments including residential and commercial construction as well as yachts in the high-end marine industry.
 
Since 2016, Bernal has progressively built his organization into a total home
wellness-driven organization focused on indoor air quality, water quality and smart plumbing solutions working with over 60 home builders including many in the Top 10. Erik and his team are recognized as thought leaders in the residential industry providing environmentally sound and pandemic-ready solutions that are affordable and scalable across all market segments. Today, Bernal enjoys spending his free time with his wife and daughters traveling as well as attending sporting events.


Aaron Berndt Aaron Berndt, Head of Energy Industry Partnerships / Americas, Google

Aaron Berndt is Head of Energy Industry Partnerships at Google, where he leads the team that works with utility partners to develop customer-focused energy programs that leverage Google Nest products. Prior to joining Google, Aaron was a leader in PG&E's Customer Energy Solutions team, with responsibility for the delivery of key products and programs in PG&E's portfolio. Aaron holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and an M.B.A from U.C. Berkeley Haas School of Business.

With over 12 years in the energy industry, Luis works with utilities to develop solutions that influence customer behavior, and encourage wide scale adoption of load management programs, energy efficiency, renewable energy & electrification. As Business Development Manager at Enel X, Luis manages utility & municipal government business development in the Central & Eastern United States. Since starting with Enel X in mid-2020, Luis has expanded Enel X's utility portfolio and its electric vehicle smart charging products and energy management services to utilities including WEC Energy Group, Consumers Energy, Clark Public Utilities, DTE, and FPL. Luis is also spearheading electric vehicle charging infrastructure development in Mexico and Puerto Rico. David has been a driving force behind the digital transformation of the energy industry for over 15 years. He has served as the Head of Digital and Chief Digital Officer for some of the nation's largest energy companies. 
 
In December 2021, David joined EIQhome, a start-up Smart Home Energy Management Platform company whose goal is to transform the way people use and manage their home energy. As EIQhome's Chief Digital Officer, David is responsible for creating a seamless, personalized energy experience by utilizing AI/ML technologies and integrating various sources of energy IoT/smart meter data. Prior to EIQhome, David launched NextEra Energy's new Energy Shopping Concierge business, PowerWizard.com. Prior to NextEra, David was Head of Digital Growth at Centrica North American Home, responsible for All Things Digital. Before Centrica, David was the founding member of Constellation's Digital Business Team. 
 
At last count, David has 267 integrated smart devices installed across his home and barn house in Sugar Land, TX which is great for him but drives his wife and kids crazy.

Brad has more than two decades of experience in the utility industry -- before joining SPAN, he was Head of Demand Response Partnerships at Google Nest, where he led sales and business development efforts for Nest's "Rush Hour Rewards" product. Previously, Brad was Vice President of Utility Solutions for EnerNOC, Inc., where he managed a 40-person team responsible for sales, marketing, and consulting to electric and gas utilities worldwide. Earlier in his career, Mr. Davids held a variety of leadership positions related to retail energy services, including Vice President for EPRI Solutions, President and CEO of Primen, and Senior Vice President of the energy research firm E Source, which he co-founded in 1992. As the National Organizing Director of The Alliance for Solar Choice (TASC), Fortune magazine described the netroots work she pioneered as radically changing political advocacy through digital technology. Prior to joining Logical Buildings, David was an associate at Castleton Commodities International where he focused on derivatives trading and asset acquisition opportunities across the commodity landscape, including the $1.5 billion acquisition of Morgan Stanley's physical oil trading business in 2015. Troy Morgan is the founder and CEO of PanTech Design LLC, the creators of Adapt for Crestron systems and Adapt Energy. He’s a Master Level Crestron programmer with 28 years of programming experience. He programmed his first Crestron system in 1997 and has been responsible for thousands of successful implementations of both commercial and residential Crestron systems since then. He started the Crestron Southwest office in 1999 and held many different titles during his employ at Crestron to include running the CAIP program for Crestron for 2 years. (Crestron Authorized Independent Programmer).
His passion for Crestron and the technological capabilities of the hardware sparked a move to start PanTech Design LLC in March of 2005. By recognizing the need for a company dedicated to the success of the Crestron Integrator, he’s grown his team to a total of 10 people focused on design, engineering and programming of Crestron systems.

In 2012 he recognized the need for faster and more flexible programming tools for the residential market and began developing with his team a new way to program Crestron systems called ADAPT. ADAPT was launched in September of 2015 and now has over 100+ integrators using the ADAPT software platform and over 3000 ADAPT systems deployed around the US.

In August of 2016 ADAPT was recognized by Crestron as a Certified Integrated Partner (CIP). To date, ADAPT is the only software that goes into Crestron hardware as a system with this distinction.

He’s always looking for new technical challenges for his team to take on and remains excited and dedicated to moving the residential industry forward. It’s this mindset that brought him to the extremely new and very innovative Energy Automation movement.

Mr. Oberholzer’s primary responsibility at Resideo is to manage the utility and business aspects of the Resideo Grid Services business and the two-dozen load management programs it supports. As one of the platform’s inventers, he has been instrumental in driving it from inception in 2010 to an industry leading DRMS for residential energy products by focusing on data, analytics, and automated intelligence. Mr. Oberholzer is responsible for all aspects of service delivery to our utility customers and the profit and loss of the business overall. Before founding this business in 2010, Mr. Oberholzer spent the previous decade + in technical and business management in the telecommunications industry primarily at Verizon Wireless. Prior to that, Mr. Oberholzer was a Naval Flight Officer in the U.S. Navy making several overseas deployments to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa flying the S-3B Viking off the USS America and deploying airborne national security sensors worldwide for the National Security Agency. Eamonn Urey is a Senior Product Manager at Salt River Project (SRP). Eamonn’s background includes eight years in electric utility programs and product management at SRP. Eamonn has spoken at various professional organizations as a guest speaker for AESP, SEPA, ESource, and PLMA. He currently manages Demand Response programs (totaling 150 MW of dispatchable load) for residential smart thermostats (BYOT), Business Demand Response programs, a Multifamily Demand Response program via smart thermostats (MF BYOT), the country’s first small business Demand Response via smart thermostats (SMB BYOT) and is expanding SRP’s EV managed charging programs.

Previously, he worked for Apple, managing interconnection programs. Eamonn is currently enrolled in the Harvard Extension School’s Sustainability Master’s degree program. Eamonn is a disabled combat veteran with over 20-years of service in the United States Army Reserve, specializing in Counterintelligence operations and targeting operations with various combat deployments. He has recently been selected for promotion to Command Sergeant Major, the highest enlisted non-commissioned officer rank in the United States Army.
