Over a fifth of US broadband homes “highly interested” in ISP-delivered security services

New research from US firms Parks Associates has found that 14% of all US broadband households are “highly interested” in receiving security services from their ISPs.

In addition, those consumers with professional security monitoring services (around 16% of all US homes) are also interested in the new bundling and service options that come with Internet-enabled systems.

IHS: Smart TVs becoming mainstream in the US

The usage of video apps like Vudu, Amazon Prime Video and CinemaNow was also found to be significantly higher among Smart TV owners than for consumers who access this type of application through another device connected to their TV set, such as a games console.

Over half of US smart TV owners now hooking up their set

Smart TVs are going from strength to strength in the US, according to new research from Parks Associates, which finds that connection rates and consumption of online video through the devices are both steadily increasing.

The percentage of smart TV owners who actually connect their device to the Internet now stands at 56%, compared to 40% six months ago.

Netflix does cannibalise pay-TV

A combination of low service cost and viewing flexibility has given online video service Netflix an edge over pay-TV VOD and premium broadcast TV, according to a new study from US firm Parks Associates, which finds that Netflix Watch Instantly rates higher in customer satisfaction as a result.

Pay-TV subs grew 30% in Brazil last year

Brazil is outpacing its fellow BRIC countries (Russia, India and China) in its growth rate for pay-TV subscriptions, according to a new report from US firm Parks Associates.

The research firm estimates that the number of pay-TV subscriptions in Brazil increased by more than 30% last year, while its household discretionary spending for movies, music and games is nearly double that of China.
