Most US broadband homes now watch OTT monthly

The research, from Parks Associates, also found that more than 25% of households use two or more services.

"Despite impressive penetration, growth of US OTT services has slowed recently, indicating the overall market for SVOD service might be saturated," said Glenn Hower, research analyst at Parks Associates.

300MN 4K TVs to be sold by end of 2019

More than 330 million 4K Ultra HD TVs will be sold globally by the end of 2019 according to connected CE research from Parks Associates.

That's an increase from just two million in 2013, while the report Connected CE: Trends and Innovation, also noted that, of US broadband households planning to purchase a flat-panel TV in 2015, 56% think that 4K picture quality is an important feature.

Over a third share HBO NOW, other streaming passwords

OTT credential-sharing to cost $500MN in revenue in 2015

It's common for families to share log-in details for services like HBO Go, but that's bad news for programmers: over-the-top (OTT) video service credential sharing will cost the industry $500 million in direct revenues worldwide in 2015.

Cord-cutting still not common, but OTT soars

Even with new entrants like Sling TV and HBO Now, cord-cutting is still an uncommon phenomenon in the US: Only 7% of its 115 million households have broadband and OTT but no pay-TV.

According to Parks Associates, 57% of U.S. broadband households subscribe to an OTT video service, meaning that an awful lot of them have cable too. Those 8.4 million non-pay-TV households represent consumers who have discontinued pay-TV service, and those who have never subscribed to pay-TV.
