DLNA shifts over 2bn certified units

Research from industry analyst firm Parks Associates highlights DLNA’s deep reach into consumers’ digital lifestyles. With two billion DLNA Certified products already purchased by consumers, the firm projects a total of three billion products will be sold globally by 2014 with a further increase to five billion by 2016.

70m US homes will have smart TVs by 2017

According to Parks Associates research, there will be 175 million online video users in the US in 2013, rising to 191 million by 2017, at which time there will be nearly 70 million smart-TV households.

Parks Associates advertising research finds 25 per cent of smart-TV app users recall seeing an in-app ad and 84 per cent responded to that ad, the highest response rates to app advertising among current connected CE platforms.

70% of Euro pay-TV subs have TV Everywhere

According to Parks Associates research, over 70 per cent of pay-TV subscribers in Western Europe are able to receive a TV Everywhere service from their current pay-TV provider.

The firm estimates that by 2017, over 55 per cent of broadband households in Western Europe will have a smart TV, creating even greater demand for online video services.

Over 40% of US broadband houses have SVoD

A Parks Associates survey of 10,000 US broadband households shows that 44 per cent have a subscription to some kind of online video service (SVoD), such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, or Amazon. Younger consumers are more likely to subscribe to OTT video services, and 8 per cent of consumers 18-24 have never subscribed to a pay-TV service.

Tablets in 48% of US broadband homes

Competition among Apple, Amazon, Samsung, and Microsoft has lowered price points on tablets and helped expand adoption, with 48 per cent of US broadband households owning at least one, according to Parks Associates. Tablet ownership increased by nearly 33 per cent in one year, with 22 per cent of households reporting a tablet purchase, while only 7 per cent purchased an e-reader in 2012, down from 9 per cent in 2011.

US tablet owners to exceed 130m in 2014

Parks Associates and mPortal report that the number of US tablet users will increase by 61 per cent from 2013 to 2014.

Research: 66% of Pay-TV subs have multi-screen

Low ARPUs, growing competitive threats, and rival multiscreen services are driving many pay-TV providers in Europe and Asia to explore new business strategies in video services, according to research firm Parks Associates.
