Analyst: High churn for Netflix and other OTT services

Findings from market research and consulting company Parks Associates suggest that annual churn rates for OTT entertainment services Netflix, Hulu Plus, and Amazon Prime are a sign of consumers testing new video services.

OTT password sharing costs industry $500m

OTT video service credential sharing will cost the industry $500 million (€447m) in direct revenues worldwide in 2015, according to research from market research and consulting company Parks Associates examining video piracy, credential sharing, and its impact on OTT revenue.

Europeans like smart home devices

According to Parks Associates research, there were 721 million broadband households worldwide in 2014, and that number will reach 972 million by 2019. The prevalence of high-speed connections will drive the expansion of the Internet of Things in the European connected home.

Streaming media devices popular for Xmas

Analysis from Parks Associates predicts connected entertainment devices, including game consoles and streaming media devices, will be the most popular gifts for the holiday season.

Pay-TV in 78% of UK broadband homes

Parks Associates has published research showing pay-TV adoption in Germany and the UK has reached 86 per cent and 78 per cent of broadband households, respectively. Spanish adoption is much lower, with 47 per cent of broadband households receiving only local broadcast channels.

20% US broadband homes to buy smart devices within a year

A survey released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Parks Associates shows continued strong growth of smart home products in US homes, as 20 per cent of households with broadband intend to acquire one or more smart home devices within the next year. According to the study, nearly half (48 per cent) of those surveyed who own a smart home device are under 35-years-old.

37% of US broadband homes use transactional OTT

Findings from market research and consulting company Parks Associates indicate that 37 per cent of US broadband households regularly use transactional services for OTT video, such as online video rentals and downloads. The vast majority of consumers making these à la carte purchases also have a streaming video subscription, emphasising the potential role of transactional services to supplement subscription OTT.
