Apple Intros Thinner, Faster iPad

Despite that big number, Apple's new iPads are being launched as shipments show signs of slowing and competitors continue to loosen Apple's grip on the tablet market. According to a survey of 10,000 U.S. homes with broadband, Parks Associates found that 16% have an Amazon tablet and 14% have one from Samsung, while Apple’s share has dropped from 46% in the first quarter of 2012 to about 37%. Roku Surpasses 10M Players Sold In U.S.

Roku was the best-selling streaming media player in 2013, accounting for 46% of purchases in the category, according to a Parks Associates survey. According to Roku, its top sales market, in order, are: the Bay Area; Washington, D.C.; Seattle/Tacoma, Wash.; Atlanta, Ga.; and Phoenix, Ariz.

Roku Tosses A Hulu Hook

For its part, Roku has shipped about 8 million device sin the U.S., but hasn’t released any international shipment figures. Last week, Parks Associates said that Roku was the best-selling streaming media device in the U.S. last year, outpacing domestic sales of the Apple TV.

Google’s Menu Of Chromecast-Ready Apps Expands

Roku has shipped about 8 million devices in the U.S., but has yet to release any international shipment figures. Google has not released any specific shipment figures for the Google Chromecast. Last week, Parks Associates said Roku was the best-selling streaming media player in the U.S. last year, accounting for 46% of purchases in the product category.

Google Chromecast Usage ‘Waning’: Survey

The Google Chromecast has been a hot seller since its debut last summer, but usage of the popular $35 streaming adapter has been on the decline, Parks Research said, citing a survey of 10,000 U.S. broadband households conducted in the first quarter of 2014.

While ownership of the Chromecast is steady, at about 6% of U.S. broadband households, the percentage of those owners who use the device at least monthly to view Web pages on a TV has dropped from 76% in the third quarter ...read more

Roku Tops Apple TV In OTT Usage: Study

Roku owners go over-the-top to view TV shows and movies more frequently than Apple TV users, Parks Associates claimed in a new consumer research study it presented at this week’s NAB show in Las Vegas.

The firm’s Streaming CE And Content Purchasing Habits study found that 86% of Roku owners use a subscription OTT service of any kind, versus 77% of Apple TV owners. Additionally, 75% of Roku owners use Netflix, compared to 63% among the Apple TV crowd.

Local TV Stations to Test Interactive Services

The broadcast groups involved in the Pearl group have announced that they will be testing interactive content and advertising services delivered to LG Smart TVs in three markets during live newscasts and that they will be demoing the idea at this year’s 2014 NAB Show in Las Vegas.
