Report: One-third of iPhone users have a model that's more than 2 years old

One-third of iPhone users in the U.S. have a model that's more than two years old, according to new data from Parks Associates, and 30 percent of Samsung users' phones are at least that old. Meanwhile, the smartphone penetration rate among U.S. broadband households is 86 percent, topping penetration rates in the U.K. (76 percent), France (78 percent) and Germany (82 percent).

Apple unveils iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, adds in Touch ID fingerprint scanner

According to research firm Parks Associates, Apple's share of the U.S. tablet market was 37 percent in the first quarter of the year, down from 46 percent in the first quarter of 2012. According to the survey of 10,000 U.S. broadband households, 16 percent had an Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) tablet and 14 percent had a Samsung tablet.

Apple's iPhone 5 launch draws crowds, but will LTE networks hold up?

And though carriers must keep careful watch over their LTE networks, it appears that most consumers don't even know about the technology. According to the Journal, research firm Parks Associates indicated that 69 percent of U.S. smartphone users know little about LTE.
