Dish Network Continues to Make Money Despite Customer and Employee Hatred

"In 2014, U.S. cable, satellite, and telco TV are expected to end the year with 103.1 million subscribers, up just a smidge from 102.5 million last year, according to a new study by Parks Associates," Variety reported in January. And, the article continued, that subscriber loss for cable over the past few years has occurred "as consumers have switched to satellite and telco providers."

Is There Any Growth Ahead for Pay-TV Subscribers?

Research from Parks Associates suggests pay-TV in the U.S. for 2014 will grow slightly, ending the year at about 103.1 million households buying services, up from the 102.5 million subscribing to pay-TV in 2013.

If subscribers are to grow on a sustained level from the plateauing the industry has experienced over the last several years, companies will have to offer features most don't provide at this time, according to Parks.

It's Not Just iPads and iPhones Selling Well for Apple This Holiday Season

Apple desktops are the most sought-after desktop computer this holiday season, according to market research firm Parks Associates. This is a first for Apple, according to John Barrett, director of consumer analytics at Parks Associates. According to research firm Parks Associates, 45% of consumers surveyed expressed interest in the Surface before the pricing was announced. This same survey was conducted after the $599 bundled keyboard price was announced, and only 21% of respondents were still interested.
