5G Consumer Market Subscriptions To Hit 17.5 mln In 2020

By the end of 2020, there will be 17.2 million 5G consumer market subscriptions worldwide, concentrated in the US, Japan, South Korea, China, Australia, and major industrial nations in Western Europe, according to a study from Parks Associates. Global mobile data revenue is expected to reach USD 630 billion in 2020, a jump from the USD 386 billion reported in 2015. Most of the revenue growth will come from Asia & Pacific and the rest of the world.

Ad Blocking Cost Industry USD 41 Bln In 2015

US broadband households watch an average of 3.8 hours of internet video on TV screens each week, accounting for 20 percent of all video viewed on this device, according to research by Parks Associates. It warns that consumers might increasingly use ad-blocking solutions while streaming video if the digital advertising methods disrupt their viewing experience.

Half Of NAmerican Broadband Homes To Be Smart Homes By 2020

Half of North American broadband households are projected to be smart homes by 2020, according to Parks Associates. The study found that smart home product ownership rose from 16 percent to 19 percent of US broadband homes in 2015, and 44 percent of households that do not have a smart home device plan to buy one this year.

OTT Video Penetration Hits 55% In UK, 51% In France

OTT video usage is continuing to rise in Western Europe but has yet to reach the same level as in the US, according to Parks Associates. The market researcher found that 55 percent of UK broadband homes and 51 percent in France are watching TV shows and films online, compared to 70 percent in the US. Spain Leads European Cord Cutting Rates - Study

Around 16 percent of Spanish pay-TV households subscribed to pay TV for the first time last year, according to a report entitled "Connected Consumer in Europe" from Parks Associates. Four In Ten US Phone Owners Using Voice Recognition Software

A total of 39 percent of smartphone owners in the US are using some sort of voice recognition software such as Siri or Google Now, according to a study by Parks Associates. In terms of market share, Apple’s platform is currently outpacing Android, with over half of iPhone owners using voice recognition compared to less than a third of Android phone owners. 33% Of UK Broadband Homes Subscribe To OTT Video - Study

One third (33%) of UK broadband homes were subscribed to an OTT video service as of Q3 2015, according to the 'Connected Consumer in Europe' research report from Parks Associates. It also showed that just 15 percent of UK homes with pay-TV subscribe to premium movie channels.

US consumers show high demand for connected car features

Over 40 million US vehicles are connected to the internet as of end-2015 and the number will steadily increase through 2016, according to Parks Associates. The market researcher found that 64 percent of car owners in US broadband homes would like built-in support for at least one connected activity in their next car. This compares to 44 percent having some kind of advanced connected car feature in their car at present.
