Video streaming platforms used by 58% of UK broadband homes

Almost one fifth (18%) of UK broadband households have used paid-service Netflix in the last 30 days, compared to 20 percent who used the free ITV Player and 33 percent who used the free iPlayer to stream video programming, according to research from Parks Associates. Samsung is top 4K TV brand in US - research

More Samsung 4K TV sets were sold than any other brand in the US by mid-2015, according to research from Parks Associates. Samsung accounted for 28 percent of 4K TV purchases made within the last 12 months to US broadband homes. Best Buy was the leading retailer, accounting for more than 40 percent of 4K TV purchases. Sling TV breaks into top ten OTT video services

The number of OTT video services available in the US is continuing to grow, with over a quarter of them being launched since the start of the year and 40 percent within the last two years, according to Parks Associates. The top ten OTT video service companies, by number of subscribers, is led by Netflix, Amazon Video and Hulu, with the MLB.TV baseball service in fourth place, WWE Network fifth and HBO Now, which only launched a few months ago, is in sixth.

Third of UK broadband homes subscribe to OTT - study

A total of 3 percent of UK broadband homes cancelled an OTT video service subscription in the last 12 months, according to research by Parks Associates. The study shows that one third (33%) of UK broadband households currently pay for an OTT subscription. In the US, around 9 percent of US broadband homes have recently cancelled an OTT service subscription, and 59 percent currently subscribe. 22% of US smartwatch owners will use them for smart homes

Around 22 percent of those who own or intend to buy smartwatches in the US will use them for home control and automation, according to a study by Parks Associates. Around 80 percent of smartphone/tablet users who own at least one smart home device have downloaded mobile apps for these devices.

Global 4K UHD TV sales to reach over 330 mln in 2019

Global sales of 4K UHD TVs will reach more than 330 million by end-2019, up from 2 million in 2013, according to the latest connected CE research from Parks Associates. The research shows that of US broadband homes planning to buy a flat-panel TV in 2015, over half (56%) think that 4K picture quality is an important feature. Two-thirds of US broadband homes use streaming audio

Two-thirds of US broadband homes use a streaming audio service, according to new research from Parks Associates. The study found that 40 percent of broadband households use a free service to stream audio and 26 percent subscribe to a pay service. Amazon Prime Music is the top subscription service, used by 10 percent of broadband homes, followed by Pandora One at 6 percent and Spotify Premium at 4 percent.

2.5 mln EU households to have smart home controllers by 2019

A total of 2.5 million Western European households will have a smart home controller by 2019, according to a research by Parks Associates. Smart home systems will need the flexibility to deliver multiple value propositions within the household, researchers said.
