The number of Americans who play at least one hour of video games per month has more than doubled over the last three years, increasing from 56 million in 2008 to 135 million in 2011, according to research firm Parks Associates. Social gaming revenues hit $1 billion in 2010 and could grow five-fold to $5 billion in the next five years. Market research firm Parks Associates said that the revenue growth will come from increases in both advertising and virtual goods sales. The consumer backup market has grown more than 400 percent in the past couple of years, but more than 80 percent of home PC users still don’t do regular backups, said McLeod.
