Earlier this week, I received an email from Parks Associates highlighting a few recent trends in the mHealth and telemedicine industries:

• Two-thirds of U.S. broadband households used an online health service over the past 12 months to maintain their health or help manage an illness
• Nearly one in four U.S. mobile phone owners is interested in a mobile application supporting communication with his/her doctor.
• And, on average, 15-20% of mobile phone users have strong affinity for at least one mobile health application.

The research note from Parks was very timely. My colleagues and I have been following the telemedicine and health IT fields, and the business opportunities they may provide for rural telecommunications providers.
