650m broadband households by end of 2013, report predicts

According to a study conducted by Parks Associates, broadband penetration will continue to rise over the coming 12 months.

The firm expects almost 430 million households worldwide to have a data network this year, which will help meet growing data and bandwidth demands.

Stuart Sikes, President at Parks Associates, said broadband consumers are demanding a very clear value proposition - and this will help shape the market in 2013.

"To remain competitive, service providers must ensure their core offerings remain relevant to the connected consumer," he noted.

The European Commission is aiming for every single European Union household to have access to a 30Mb broadband connection by the end of the decade.

In addition, it wants half of all citizens to have the option of signing up for ultra-fast 100Mb services.
