A peek at the future of digital domiciles

Though those promoting home networking may bicker about which technology is superior, all agree that networking is the foundation on which the digital home will be built. In two years, more than 12.5 million U.S. residences will have an in-home network, up from an estimated 4.5 million at the end of 2000, according to a study by market-research firm Parks Associates of Dallas, Texas....

The need for such network mediators is huge. Park Associates predicts that the market for residential gateways will almost quadruple over the next five years, from 8.6 million units in 2001 to more than 33 million in 2005.
