Yet the potential is largely unrealised, with a recent study by Parks Associates in the US finding that 10 per cent of internet households (and 13 per cent of broadband households) identified themselves as likely to download music legally. For the foreseeable future, music downloads will not threaten in-store record sales, but add a channel for consumers to source their music. You only have to look at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this month to see the future. There the hot products were all associated with sending downloaded media around networked houses.
