Charter will offer TiVo service linking TV to the Internet
There’s no easy way to mate cable TV and the internet, says Kurt Scherf, principal analyst, at Parks Associates, a digital marketing and research firm in Dallas. Many cable companies grew by buying other cable companies, leaving them with different systems incompatible with a single approach.
Phone companies, such as Verizon and AT&T, tended to build their own TV and Internet systems, which puts them in a better position.
TiVo is a good solution because it works across cable systems, said Scherf. Cable companies know that if they want to get new customers, they’ll need a set-top box with the inherent capabilities of a TiVo box," said.
TiVo tends to get better reviews from customers than the digital video recorder boxes supplied by cable companies, said Scherf.
