From the article "Inside Theater - Future Proof?" by Maureen C. Jenson.
Kurt Scherf is an analyst for Parks Associates, a Dallas-based market-research and consulting firm that studies emerging technologies and services. He has likened computers and Internet access to the Holy Grail for companies seeking to develop low-cost, convenient, and secure networking for the consumer. Parks Associates notes that there are between 13 and 14 million multi-PC households in the US, but only 20% of them are networked in any way. The number of multi-PC households is expected to double by 2002, providing a huge networking opportunity.
How does this affect the readers of SGHT? According to Scherf, "In viewing the network landscape, we believe it will be driven by a number of applications, including the distribution of digital content from the Internet, DSS, DVD players, and other high-bandwidth entertainment and information pipelines coming into the home."
