Home Network Growth Spurs Technical Support Market

By 2016, 95% of all U.S. households with high-speed Internet service will also be equipped with home network routers, creating a market for technical assistance, says research firm Parks Associates.

About 78% of U.S. broadband households had a home network router in 2012, up from 54% in 2009, says Parks Associates.

The rub is that almost 35% of broadband households experience technical problems with home networks, says Parks Associates.

"With the wide adoption of wireless networks and connected technology, and the challenges that they are causing for consumers, companies have an opportunity to take customer experience management to the next level through premium support," said James Morehead, an executive with cloud-based tech services provider Support.com, which co-authored the report with Parks.

The report says the demand for technical support will create an opportunity to sell services for Internet service providers, retailers and technology companies.
