iPad Tops Holiday Wish Lists Ahead of Kindle Fire and Nexus Tablets

A recent report from Parks Associates shows that this holiday season, consumers are leaning toward Apple for their gadget gifts over any other brand. Even Apple’s iPad 2 is generating interest over the Kindle fire by 20 percent. It looks like it is going to be another great year for the iPad maker.

According to Parks Associate’s New Consumer Analytics research, 44 percent of consumers surveyed are planning to purchase an iPad 2 with the Kindle Fire trailing behind with 24 percent. Microsoft’s first submission to the tablet market lost steam fairly quickly. John Barrett, Director, Consumer Analytics at Parks Associate said early interest in the Surface was high, “but once pricing and product details were announced, holiday intentions to purchase a Microsoft Surface dropped to 21% in Q4 from 45% in Q3.”

The Parks Associates survey also showed that for the first time, more U.S. broadband households plan to by a tablet than a laptop, netbook or ultrabook this holiday season. Current tablet ownership more than doubled from this time last year, up from 15 percent to 32 percent. Parks Associates predicts it will rise to 66 percent in 2013.

The analytics firm also predicts that the iPad mini will cannibalize iPad sales. “When presented with this new product option, 40 percent of iPad intenders opted for an iPad mini.”

Whatever they end up buying, it is clear that Apple will do fairly well this holiday season.
