One-third of broadband customers ‘keen on provider security services’

Interest in provider-deployed household security services is on the rise among UK broadband customers, according to new research from Parks Associates.

The market intelligence firm found that more than one-third of broadband subscribers are interested in receiving alerts for everything from fires to open windows in their home via PCs, smartphones and tablets.

Some 35 per cent of respondents expressed their demand for a proposition that allows household appliances to automatically adjust their settings to reduce energy consumption.

Highlighting the differences between the European and North American markets, Parks Associates went on to reveal that 86 per cent of pay TV customers in the US and Canada have access to ‘TV Everywhere’ services, which allow certain premium content to be streamed online.

In contrast, the technology is available to just 66 per cent of western European homes and 21 per cent of those in eastern Europe.
