However, many industry experts believe that this fall in TV ownership doesn’t signal the end for live TV.

Glenn Hower, research analyst at consulting firm Parks Associates, previously told Cable.co.uk that live content would still have its place in traditional TV broadcasting.

Mr Hower said: "I do have a hard time seeing that linear TV will completely die, especially seeing as there is still a lot of value in live content."

Asked about the global place of traditional TV, Mr Hower said: "I do have a hard time seeing that linear TV will completely die, especially seeing as there is still a lot of value in live content."

He added: "So as long as we're still watching live events, and I have to think that we will be – sports leagues are still bringing in a tonne of money – there's going to be a place for live content."
